The world’s most expressive humanoid robot, Ameca, has showcased a new skill by drawing a cat in a video released by Engineered Arts on YouTube. Engineered Arts, the company behind Ameca, has given the robot the ability to imagine drawings, adding to its repertoire of expressive capabilities. Previously, Ameca has demonstrated the ability to express human emotions and speak multiple languages. Developed in 2021, Ameca serves as a platform for future robotic technologies and is equipped with microphones, cameras, and facial recognition software. Engineered Arts upgraded Ameca’s software using Stable Diffusion, a deep learning text-to-image model, which allows the robot to generate detailed images based on text descriptions. In the video, Ameca explains the process of generating the drawing using Stable Diffusion and proceeds to draw the cat. While the possibility of an art exhibit featuring Ameca’s drawings seems unlikely, the advancement highlights the increasing human-like capabilities of AI and robots.
