Threads, the social media app launched by Meta to rival Twitter, has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 100 million users in less than five days. The app’s rapid growth has outpaced the previous record set by Open AI’s ChatGPT app. Threads became available on both Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries last Wednesday, although it is currently not accessible in Europe due to concerns about EU data privacy regulations. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, reported that the app had attracted 10 million users within the first seven hours of its launch and surpassed 30 million by Thursday morning. Within just 24 hours, that number had more than doubled. Despite its impressive user base, Threads still falls short compared to Twitter’s estimated 350 million users. Twitter has experienced some user discontent since Elon Musk’s takeover, with job cuts and revenue-generating changes being implemented under his ownership.
How to Sign up Threads App?
- Install the Threads app from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for iOS).
- Launch the app and you will be prompted to log in using your Instagram account. If you don’t see your Instagram account listed on the Threads login screen, make sure you are logged into Instagram on your device and then relaunch the Threads app.
- Once you have selected the Instagram account you want to use, you will be given the option to customize your Threads profile. Your username will be imported from your Instagram account.
- You can add a bio or a custom link to your Threads profile. Alternatively, you can tap the “Import from Instagram” button to import your profile data from Instagram.
- Next, you will see the privacy options screen. Here, you can choose to make your Threads profile public or private, independent of your Instagram privacy settings. Select either “Public profile” or “Private profile” to proceed.
- On the following screen, you will have the option to follow the same accounts that you follow on Instagram. You can manually select individual accounts you want to follow on Threads, or simply tap “Follow all” to automatically follow all the accounts you are already following on Instagram.
Do you need Instagram for threads?
In order to use Threads, it is necessary for users to have an existing Instagram account. After installing and launching the app, users will be prompted to log in using their Instagram credentials. If an Instagram account is not displayed on the Threads login screen, users should ensure they are logged into Instagram on their device and then relaunch the Threads app. Once logged in, users can customize their Threads profile and import their Instagram profile data if desired. It’s worth noting that the privacy settings on Threads can be different from those set on Instagram, allowing users to have separate privacy preferences for each platform.
